YouTube officially announced its livestreaming test yesterday, as we reported in the Bulletin. However, it’s got off to a sluggish start, with reports that one of the online TV shows – an interview with skateboarder Tony Hawk – never had more than 500 people watching at once. However, YouTube says the issue is a bug in its people-counter, rather than that the numbers are really that low. In its launch blog post, YouTube stresses that this remains a trial. “Based on the results of this initial test, we’ll evaluate rolling out the platform more broadly to our partners worldwide.”
