More than half a billion digital music tracks have been sold in the UK, according to new figures from the Official Charts Company. The 500 millionth download was bought last month, and according to the OCC equates to eight tracks for every member of the UK population, and two albums for every household. What’s more, more than 100 million downloads have already been sold this year, which the OCC claims puts the UK market on track to hit 170 million for the full year. “The surpassing of this latest landmark highlights just how enthusiastically music consumers have taken to legitimate music download services in the UK,” says OCC boss Martin Talbot.
