Analyst Bernstein Research has hailed Apple’s iPad as one of the most successful consumer gadget launches in history, having sold three million units in its first 80 days, and currently running at 4.5 million sales a quarter. Compare that to the one million units sold by the original iPhone in its first quarter, or the 350,000 DVD players sold in the first year of that technology. Bernstein reckons iPad will generate sales of $9 billion in 2011 alone – the fourth largest product category behind TVs, smartphones and notebook PCs, but ahead of games consoles and feature phones.Read more:
