New Twitter CEO Dick Costolo has denied suggestions that his promotion to the role earlier this week is a sign that the microblogging startup is looking to sell out. “No, I am not prepping Twitter for a sale,” he tells the Telegraph. “There really is no distinction between the way [Twitter founder] Ev and I think about the company. We both want Twitter to be a successful independent company. We’ve both done that selling a start-up thing to big companies like Google, and don’t want to do it with Twitter.” However, Costolo did say that Twitter plans to launch country-specific advertising early next year, allowing brands to use its promoted tweets and promoted trends outside the US.
