Microsoft is using its Zune Pass music subscription service as the carrot to persuade people to pre-order new Windows Phone 7 smartphones. In the US, anyone who pre-orders is being offered three months of the service for free – worth nearly $45 given its $14.99 monthly price. The offer indicates that Microsoft is keen to reinvigorate Zune Pass with the release of its new smartphone OS, with a trial period longer than the average for services of this type.
