US mobile firm Thumbplay says its Thumbplay Music applications for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry have been downloaded 500,000 times since June. 70% of Thumbplay Music users are male, and 90% of its usage is to smartphones rather than computers. 95% of streamed music is for ‘long tail’ tunes outside the service’s Top 20 tracks.
