Amazon’s revenues were up 39% to $7.56 billion in the third quarter of this year, with sales of ‘media’ accounting for $3.35 billion of that – up 14%, but overtaken by sales of ‘electronics and general merchandise’, which generated $3.97 billion. Once again, there were no details of how the Amazon MP3 store is growing, and little of substance on the performance of Amazon’s Kindle e-reader and e-books store. One analyst asked an interesting question: could the Whispersync technology that’s used to deliver e-books to Kindle over-the-air be used for other content like music? However, the question was deadbatted by CFO Thomas Szkutak.
