Google has unveiled what it’s describing as a‘trial’ website in India called Google Music Search (India) Labs. It’s focused for now on Hindi Bollywood songs, allowing users to refine their searches by artist, movie or date. What’s more, songs can be streamed in full for free, thanks to deals cut between Google and streaming partners SaReGaMa, In.com and Saavn.com. The new search engine does not include purchasing links – as Google’s music search did in the US when it launched last year – but the company says it’s looking for feedback on new features. The launch has been interpreted as an attempt to help the local industry fight piracy, and follows a music search engine in China which focused on free legal downloads, rather than streams.
