New figures from Cisco’s Visual Networking Index reveal that video has overtaken P2P as the largest source of global internet traffic. Video accounts for 26% of all data traffic, while P2P takes a 25% share. This time last year, P2P accounted for 38% of global traffic. However, as NewTeeVee points out, this isn’t a sign that P2P traffic is falling – just that it’s not growing anywhere near as fast as video. What’s more, video now accounts for one third of all data traffic delivered from the top 50 websites globally, although we’d imagine that YouTube may be skewing that figure somewhat.
