YouTube has announced that it has now served more than 500 million ‘promoted video views’ to users. That means videos that advertisers have paid to be promoted in YouTube’s search results and on its homepage. YouTube says it has seen a “six-fold increase” in the number of users clicking to watch Promoted Videos too – the stats have been released to show the ongoing growth of YouTube’s monetisation plans. However, it seems that YouTube CEO Chad Hurley is stepping aside to an advisory role. He revealed the news during an interview at the Dublin Founders conference. Hurley is working on other internet projects, while Google’s former VP of web applications Salar Kamangar is apparently in day-to-day charge at YouTube.
