Music locker startup MP3tunes has filed a motion for summary judgement in its copyright infringement battle with EMI. The case focuses on the MP3tunes service, and its Sideload music search engine. Founder Michael Robertson said in an email to industry contacts that the outcome of the lawsuit will have a wide impact. “This case has enormous ramifications for the internet industry because all the major net companies offer services which store media files. This includes their personal storage services like Google Docs, Microsoft Skydrive and Apple iDisk which offer unlimited file sharing – something MP3tunes doesn’t allow.” Robertson is hoping that recent outcomes in cases involving Veoh and YouTube will help MP3tunes prevail in a summary judgement.
