Independent labels Domino, Merge and Beggars Group are pulling their catalogues from eMusic, the company has announced. In a posting on its forums, the company said that “we want to be up front with our loyal indie fans” in warning that the labels’ music will “no longer be available on eMusic as of Nov. 18, 2010 pending further discussion”. The company describes the news as “heartbreaking… Please know we have done everything we could to stop them from leaving”. The news comes as eMusic prepares to add more than 250,000 new tracks to its catalogue courtesy of deals with major labels. It’s making for a painful transition for eMusic, which is finally winning the support of majors, while running the risk of alienating some of its oldest partners and users.
