If the music industry needed any more incentive to take off its iPhone blinkers, a pair of new reports provide more reasons to have Android firmly on the radar. First, analyst Canalys estimates that Android will grow at more than twice the rate of its smartphone competitors this year, with 20 million Android phones having already shipped worldwide. Second, mobile advertising network Millennial Media says Android now accounts for more ad requests than iPhone on its network – the first time this has happened. This isn’t just about Android being good for music apps, though. Android is likely to form the base for Google’s upcoming music service.
