With RapidShare reacting angrily to its portrayal as a piracy haven, fellow online storage service MegaUpload has joined the fight against “grotesquely overblown allegations” from rightsholders. Its statement compares itself to broadband providers, hard drive vendors, email accounts and USB sticks – as in it is not responsible for the content stored on its service. “We also cooperate closely with rightsholders and their copyright enforcement agents and provide them with direct realtime takedown access, bypassing the DMCA process entirely.” MegaUpload goes on to say it has never been sued for copyright infringement, but also that it has some “good ideas” for working more positively with the content industry.
