LG was one of the key handset manufacturer partners for Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 smartphone OS last year, so it should have a good idea of how popular it’s been. And? “From an industry perspective we had a high expectation, but from a consumer point of view the visibility is less than we expected,” says marketing strategy and planning team director James Choi in an interview. However, LG remains upbeat. “We strongly feel that it has a strong potential even though the first push wasn’t what everyone expected… once Windows Phone 7 handsets that are mid-tier to low tier start appearing the market share will grow.” Microsoft has been careful not to release any figures for how many Windows Phone 7 smartphones have been sold since its launch.
