In our earlier story about Liberty Media’s lawsuit against Hotfile, we mentioned the way it targets payments firm PayPal too, for doing business with Hotfile. It’s part of a trend, as seen in a case brought by two book publishers relating to a site called Pharmatext, which has pirated e-books. The plaintiffs – Elsevier and John Wiley & Sons – targeted two advertising networks (Clicksor and Chitikua) who provide ads for the site. Also targeted was Enom, the domain registrar for the Pharmatext site. The ad networks have been ordered to halt outstanding payments and stop doing business with Pharmatext, while Enom has been told it must reveal the identify of the site’s owner, including their bank account details.
