Yesterday saw the big press launch for Nintendo’s new 3DS handheld. The big feature is its ability to show 3D graphics on one of its screens without the need for special glasses. However, what was clear yesterday was that Nintendo wants the 3DS to be a general entertainment device, with more uses than just gaming. Deals with Aardman Animations, Eurosport and Sky will bring 3D video content to the device, while there are whizzy augmented reality features too. And music? The 3DS can play digital music, but nothing was announced yesterday about potential streaming and/or downloads services. Perhaps it’s an opportunity for someone like 7digital…
