Disrupt.fm is the latest startup promising to help artists go viral on Facebook. It lets artists make songs available to be downloaded by fans for free, with the condition that they are then shared in that fan’s Facebook feed. Their friends are then also encouraged to visit the band’s Disrupt.fm page to get free downloads – and in turn share the link. “Free music has slowly become the norm, and musicians must adapt to the new expectations that consumers have set,” says founder David Glassanos. “The old music distribution model has failed in the digital age and it’s time for a fundamental change to the way we distribute music.”
