Smule has had App Store Hits with I Am T-Pain, Glee, Ocarina and other apps, but now the company is looking to double-down on its success. It has announced plans to double its staff to nearly 50 people this year, while also hiring former Apple and Mint.com exec Justin Maxwell to head up its user experience and game design team. The company says its apps have ‘created musical content that has been shared and listened to more than 126 million times’. We’re more interested in the ‘game design’ aspect of Maxwell’s new job though: Smule hasn’t really made games in the past, so this looks like a new string to the company’s bow in 2011.
