Google hosted a press event yesterday to show off its new ‘Honeycomb’ flavour of Android for tablet devices. However, of more interest to Music Ally are two other Android announcements from the event. First: in-app payments are coming to Google-powered smartphones, finally bringing it into line with Apple’s iOS. Developers will be able to charge in-app for content and features from this Spring. The news was accompanied by the announcement that music game franchise Tap Tap Revenge is coming to Android. The TTR business model relies on in-app payments, hence the timing. The second announcement was a web-based version of the Android Market store, allowing Android users to browse and search for apps on their desktop, and send them wirelessly to their phones.
