European Commissioner Neelie Kroes has made her latest speech on the need for shaking up content licensing across the continent, at an event in London. “The growth and development of the digital single market is where we need to put our attention now. Every gap, and every failure to keep up with developments in the digital economy that lead to growth, holds us back from long-term recovery.” Kroes also warned that national licensing risks creating “a series of Berlin cultural walls” and called on attendees – including culture minister Ed Vaizey – to work towards a cross-border licensing model. “It is time for this dysfunction to end. We need a simple, consumer-friendly legal framework for making digital content available across borders in the EU.” Source: Music Week
