The latest artist to get the gamification treatment is soul singer Erykah Badu, with her new iPhone app. It’s all based around a ‘LoveMeter’, which “tracks how much love you give to Erykah Badu”. Which is a nice way of saying fans get points for sharing articles, buying music and checking in at concerts. What do points mean? Prizes. Well, voice messages: Badu will be recording a series of messages for fans, and “the higher your LoveScore the most personal the voice messages to you”. The app also lets fans leave their own voice messages for Erykah, and it also pulls in tweets, Facebook and website updates, videos, music and gig listings. The app is developed by FanTrail, a startup focused on ‘apps for artists’. Badu is its first client.
