Since being sold by Viacom/MTV, game developer Harmonix has kept quiet about its future plans. Now CEO Alex Rigopulos has opened up (a bit) to Billboard, saying he understands why Viacom wanted out of the music games business, but that he is excited about his studio’s potential. “there’s a ton of creative energy around new ideas and new [intellectual property] that we’re working on right now,” he says, confirming that Harmonix is prototyping new music games. However, it’s also branching out, based on the success of its latest Xbox 360 hit. “Dance Central is at the intersection of music gaming and motion gaming. We’re actively branding out into motion gaming, even beyond music gaming, as a new area of creative focus.”
