Another day, another digital record broken by Lady Gaga. Her album The Fame has become the first to reach platinum status from downloads alone, selling more than 300,000 digital copies. That’s out of more than 2.5 million copies sold in the UK overall when physical sales are factored in. Gaga’s album beat two other big-selling digital titles to the platinum mark: Kings of Leon’s Only By The Night and Florence + The Machine’s Lungs. “Lady Gaga is the kind of artist who is constantly striving to break new ground and she has done that yet again for album downloads,” says Official Charts Company boss Martin Talbot.
