Psonar CEO Martin Rigby is the latest person to give his views on Amazon’s new cloud music service – a direct competitor to Psonar when it launches outside the US. He calls it “a welcome, major brand vindication of the business models of the existing cloud-based locker services, such as MP3.com and mSpot in the US, and Tunesbag in Europe”, but says Amazon’s current locker-only approach won’t appeal to the younger consumers who “no longer rip, sideload and hoard music in the way that the first generation of fans exposed to digital music did… Music doesn’t just need to easy to buy, store and access, it also needs to be available without any ownership commitment at a price that makes piracy not worth the hassle.”
