The pace of the music industry these days, eh? Having rocketed to web fame with the song Friday, Rebecca Black is already embroiled in her first copyright lawsuit. She’s the plaintiff though, against Ark Music Factory – the company that provided her with the song and filmed the video. Black’s lawyers are accusing Ark of copyright infringement and unlawful exploitation of publicity rights, saying the company has refused to provide Black with the masters, and has been exploiting her likeness and the song on YouTube, iTunes, Amazon and its own website. Ark founder Patrice Wilson denies wrongdoing: “I have met with Rebecca Black’s mom and everything is fine. She will get the masters and the song. They can have it all.” We sense that the lawyers may be less scary in this situation than the wrath of the mom. Caveat: this was published on 1 April, but we think it’s kosher. Possibly.
