Tomi Ahonen has a reputation for being a strong-talking mobile consultant, and he didn’t disappoint at the Connected Creativity Forum in Cannes yesterday. He gave assembled TV execs a verbal slapping for their focus on iPhone apps. “There are about 100 million iPhones on the platform. Now multiply it against all mobile phones. That’s 2% of your audience! If you develop an iPhone app and you are a media brand, you are deliberately ignoring 98% of your available audience. That’s a pretty rotten strategy in my mind.” However, Ahonen isn’t against apps in the long term. “I totally believe apps will be huge – they will be bigger than SMS and MMS, but it will take them ten years to get there.” Source: Mobile Entertainment
