MTV’s new digital music awards show is coming together, with the announcement of the nominations for The O Music Awards. The categories are… interesting. They include Must Follow Artist on Twitter and Best Fan Army, but also Most Viral Dance, Funniest Music Short and Best Animal Short. Artists like Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Justin Bieber will compete with the likes of Tyler The Creator, Ted Leo and Phish. Services like Pandora, SoundCloud and Hypemachine are being used for the online aspects of the awards. “If there is such a thing as a beta award show, this is it,” says MTV’s EVP of digital media Dermot McCormack. “We won’t be judging by how many streams we do on several websites, We will be judging it by how much we can affect the conversation around digital music in the lead-up and beyond.” Source: Digital Music Insider
