Dmitry Shapiro was a founder of video site Veoh – which famously fell foul of Universal Music Group on copyright grounds – and more recently was chief technology officer at MySpace Music. Now he’s left the company to work on his own startup called Altly. It’s fair to say he has grand ambitions too. “I know it sounds crazy, but our new company, http://altly.com, is building an alternative to Facebook,” he tweeted yesterday. “More details soon :-)” Shapiro’s background makes us wonder if music and video will be a big part of Altly.
