NPD Group has published its latest mobile handset market data, claiming that Apple is now the third largest seller of mobile phones in the US. That’s *all* mobile phones, not just smartphones. The report suggests that Apple now has a 14% share of the handset market in the US, behind only Samsung (23%) and LG (18%), but having leapfrogged Research In Motion and Motorola. Note, these stats are by manufacturer – when you consider operating systems, Google’s Android now accounts for half of all smartphones sold in the US according to NPD.
