NPD Group has published its latest mobile handset market data, claiming that Apple is now the third largest seller of mobile phones in the US. That’s *all* mobile phones, not just smartphones. The report suggests that Apple now has a 14% share of the handset market in the US, behind only Samsung (23%) and LG (18%), but having leapfrogged Research In Motion and Motorola. Note, these stats are by manufacturer – when you consider operating systems, Google’s Android now accounts for half of all smartphones sold in the US according to NPD. The last quarter was also the first time more smartphones have been sold in the US than feature phones – 54% of the market.
