Things continue to go from bad to worse for Sony (the consumer electronics firm, as opposed to the label). The company made a public apology to users of its PlayStation Network service over the weekend, admitting that around 10 million credit card numbers were exposed by a recent hack attack – although it still doesn’t know how many of them were actually stolen. There are 77 million PSN members, but only 10 million registered credit cards, since many aspects of Sony’s PlayStation online community are free. The farrago has taken PSN offline for a couple of weeks, along with Sony’s fledgling Music Unlimited streaming music service. Exec Kaz Hirai has defended Sony against accusations that it took too long to warn customers about the security issues. “As we became more certain of the information, we communicated to the users.” Source: VentureBeat
