As if Spotify doesn’t have enough to chew on launching in the US and making its newly-restricted free service pay off, now there’s speculation that it’s also plotting to take on Netflix in the streaming movies game. TechCrunch – who else? – published the rumour, claiming that Spotify has ‘negotiated a number of deals with major movie studios to offer users streaming movies as well as music’. What’s more, they’d be available ‘just a couple of weeks after they’ve been in theaters’. True or false? Spotify CEO Daniel Ek was quick to pour scorn on the speculation, tweeting “No it ain’t true. Media these days are funny. Soon I’ll be reading that Spotify is launching a space rocket…”
