Now that all the mobile handset makers have announced their latest quarterly financials, analysts are picking through the figures to make wider judgements. Canalys is the latest, reporting that 101 million smartphones were shipped in Q1 this year. 35.7 million of them – 35% – were Android handsets, thanks to strong sales from HTC, Samsung, LG, Motorola and Sony Ericsson. The report also suggests that Samsung’s bada smartphones notched up nearly 3.5 million shipments during the quarter – “outperforming total shipments of Windows Phone devices by more than a million units” according to Canalys. In other words, if Windows Phone is on your apps radar, bada probably should be as well.
