German streaming service Simfy passes 1m registered users

Cologne music startup Simfy says it now has more than one million registered users, having added half of them since January this year. The service now has a catalogue of more than eight million streaming songs, and says the average user listens to at least one hour of music a day on Simfy, generating 50 million total plays a month. The company has not said how many of those one million users are paying for the premium version of the service, which includes mobile access. “We have contributed to really revving up the music streaming market in Germany,” says CEO Gerrit Schumann. “Our user numbers and the high level of activity of our users are confirmation that our strategy is working out. Our view of the future is very optimistic, and we have a lot in store for music lovers including new apps and services that we’re launching this month.” Germany has long been seen as a tough market for streaming music, with services citing tough terms set by local collecting society GEMA. Having struck a deal, though, Simfy is clearly benefiting from the lack of competition. Source: Simfy
