European startup MusiXmatch has raised $3.7 million of Series A funding, led by Italian investor Francesco Micheli Associates. The company’s service is based around licensed lyrics, with 5.3 million songs in its catalogue. Although it runs its own site, a big focus is its API for other sites and apps to use – it’s been involved with Music Hack Days recently to show this off. TechCrunch explains that it also provides analytics for songwriters and music publishers so they can see how their songs are being accessed, while also sharing revenues with them. Among its partners are BMG, Kobalt, Universal Music Publishing Group, Sony/ATV Music and Harry Fox Agency. Source: TechCrunch
