Official.fm styles itself as ‘the do it yourself music club’, helping artists and content owners to host and make money from their music. It’s just announced a funding round of more than $8 million to continue developing its platform. That will include launching premium accounts in the coming months, which CEO Jeremie Abihssira promises will give users “access to new ways for you to live off of the music you create & control”. The company has a new API that’s being used to improve music discovery by startups including Shuffler.fm, and the company is planning to launch a desktop track manager to help its users manage their catalogues. It’s also planning to ramp up its analytics offering, and make it easier for members to hook up for remixes and collaborations.
