Google’s Android Market has more than 200,000 apps, but has been regularly criticised for its poor discovery, making it hard to find the good ones. Yesterday, the company announced a bunch of new features to improve this. That includes new Top App charts that are country-specific, including an iOS-style Top Grossing chart to promote the best paid apps. There is also now an Editor’s Choice segment to talk about the highest quality apps, while 150 developers have been given Top Developer status – an icon designed to act as a badge of quality for Android users. Google says it has also improved its ‘related apps’ feature to suggest other apps someone might like, and introduced a Trending Apps section to spotlight apps that are quickly growing in terms of daily installs. All very welcome improvements for developers and publishers.
