SoundExchange has made a habit of signing partnerships with music marketing services in order to sign up more artists for unclaimed royalties in recent times – for example Myspace and Sonicbids. Its latest deal is with Facebook marketing startup RootMusic. According to SoundExchange, the partnership is connecting 7,462 artists to $5.3 million in money waiting to be paid out. “When we first spoke with RootMusic last year, two hundred artists had a BandPage on Facebook,” says SoundExchange’s Bryan Calhoun. “Now, over 150,000 artists are signed up. RootMusic shares our commitment to emerging artists, and that’s what makes them such a valuable partner.” In this case, the deal involved matching SoundExchange’s list of bands due royalties with RootMusic’s own client database.
