Mobile operator Vodafone has announced plans to launch the Vodafone Smart handset in Germany, Italy and the UK this summer, before rolling it out to other markets. The phone is an Android smartphone, manufactured by Huawei, which will cost just €90 on a pay-as-you-go tariff – making it one of the cheapest Android handsets yet. It’ll have the usual raft of Google apps and services preloaded, but Vodafone will also be preloading some of its own services, including Vodafone Music. “It takes the higher end mobile internet experience and packages it for the mass market,” says Vodafone’s Patrick Chomet, who adds that smartphones currently account for more than 40% of Vodafone’s overall handset sales across Europe.
