More than 500,000 iPhone and iPad apps have been approved by Apple since its App Store launched in the summer of 2008, according to new research from Chomp, 148Apps and Chillingo. Those apps have come from more than 85,000 developers, with 37% of them being free to download, and 63% paid. The 500,000 figure is for app approvals, but there’s actually now more like 400,000 actually available on the App Store, with 100,000 or so having been removed for a variety of reasons. The research includes more stats: the average price for paid apps is $3.64, and the most popular app category by downloads is games, which accounts for 15% of all App Store downloads. Books (14%) and entertainment (11%) are the next most popular. And music? Music apps account for just 4% of the more than 10 billion+ downloads on the App Store. Which, more optimistically, means at least 400 million iOS music apps have been downloaded since the summer of 2008.Read more:http://tinyurl.com/3r7ezhx
