Universal Music Group’s digital boss Rob Wells was on stage at Music Matters in Singapore earlier today for a discussion about cloud music, but it’s his comments on Pandora that may cause a stir. “I don’t like Pandora, they are gaming the DMCA,” he said, according to our (tweeting) man on the scene. “I don’t see them as a business partner… They are a business partner of SoundExchange, not a business partner of UMG.” He went on to praise Beyond Oblivion – “we don’t have a licence with them yet, but they are well funded and it’s a good model” – and predicted that by this time next year, there will be licensed cloud services from Google and Amazon.
