Photo-sharing app Instagram has more than four million users, despite only being available on iPhone. We’ve written about how some artists have used it, including Snoop Dogg and Moby. Now the company has launched something called iPhone Hooks that could see it integrated into more artist apps in the coming months. The idea: it lets apps open up Instagram on a user’s phone to take and share a picture. “We wanted to make it easier for other iPhone apps (and iPhone web-apps) to hook into Instagram to open a particular item or post a photo through our app,” explains co-founder Mike Krieger. So, as an example, an artist app could encourage fans to shoot pics at gigs (or around a particular theme) and upload them to Instagram with a relevant hashtag. It’s still early days for the service, but any music apps looking to experiment with Instagram now have a good excuse. Source: TechCrunch
