Spotify has confirmed that its global head of business development, Faisal Galaria, has left the company. “We thank him for his contribution here and wish him the very best for the future,” a spokesperson tells PaidContent. Galaria had been at the streaming service since August 2009, having joined from travel website Kayak. The reason for his departure has not been announced. Galaria made headlines in January this year (Bulletin, 31-Jan-11) when an interview with him was published by US site StrategyEye, in which he speculated about pressure on US labels from Apple not to license Spotify there. “Put yourself into their shoes for a moment – you’re a nice, fat big executive at label X, Y, Z. You’re getting half a million dollars a year as long as you hit your bonus. Your bonus means that 80% of your revenues comes from iTunes. Are you going to tell iTunes where to go?”
