Lady Gaga and Tomorrow Ventures (run by Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt) have invested in The Backplane, a startup co-founded by Gaga’s manager Troy Carter. It’s unclear entirely what The Backplane is all about, but reports suggest it is in talks with musicians and sporting groups like NFL to build online communities combining technology and entertainment. Backplane is reportedly inspired by Apple’s Ping but will integrate updates from Facebook and Twitter.
