The infrastructure behind podcasts – a way of distributing audio and video that sometimes gets described as “radio for your iPod” – is malfunctioning, according to Soundcloud mailman Alexander Ljung. “Podcasting is tricky – we have built this whole eco-system of having to sync your iPod to a podcast subscription and then download it via your iTunes”, he told the Telegraph at the Inspire technology conference. Soundcloud offers a web-based alternative for playing audio that is increasingly popular, though lacking the podcast’s ability for offline play. “”I don’t want to have to download something in order to listen to it anymore. Sound files need to be accessible wherever you are spending your time discovering content. Sound needs to follow me and not the other way around”, said Ljung.
