Business Insider speculates that Apple may be preparing to lay the iPod to rest. In its ten years the iPod has undergone numerous transformations, from a chunky hard drive with a greyscale screen through to today’s app-compatible, full colour wireless touchscreen glory. But until now all the revisions have been called iPod, whereas on the new iOS5 operating system the music interface is simply called “Music”, with a separate app called “Video”. Pointing out that iPod sales fell 14% last quarter, Business Insider suggests that the venerable scroll-wheel iPod Classic may be retired this autumn.
