Startup Mobile Backstage has made its name with mobile apps for artists, but it’s now expanding to Facebook. Mobile Backstage for Facebook will offer similar features to the mobile apps, helping artists post news, photos and videos, while also letting fans connect with one another around it, and upload their own content. Initially, the Facebook version will be free for existing Mobile Backstage customers – the platform is being used by all four major labels and various independents, with Lykke Li its most high-profile artist so far. But the idea is to ultimately make the Facebook version free to attract artists to the mobile platform. “The world is going mobile. Once artists experience the powerful features of our platform on Facebook, I am confident they will want to follow their fans by upgrading to our core mobile offering,” says CEO Paavo Backman. Mobile Backstage has also inked a partnership with the International Music Managers Forum to promote its service to artists in 16 countries, with more such partnerships on the way.
