Universal Music Group International has announced the appointment of Oliver Barnes as director, digital business, reporting to VP of digital Francis Keeling. Barnes comes from a startup background, including his own U-MYX and GoMix companies, and Grooveshark. He’ll now be part of UMGI’s digital team in London, doing deals with new platforms and providing support for the label group’s international digital teams. While Barnes’ appointment was being announced, elsewhere there were big changes at the Universal Motown division. According to Hypebot, around 20 employees lost their jobs, but there were also promotions for five executives – including on the digital side Jon Vanhala, who is now SVP of digital, brand integration and new business for Universal Motown and Island Def Jam.
