Social location service Foursquare has announced a big milestone: 10 million registered users. And yes, that’s ‘registered’ as opposed to ‘active’ – the company hasn’t said how many of those people have become regular users of its apps. Instead, it’s released some quirkier stats: 78,387 people are dislodged as mayors of particular locations every day, and there have been 1,061 birth announcements in check-ins made at hospitals. Some stats are more serious: there have been 358 million check-ins outside the US – a stat presumably released to dispel the occasional suggestion that Foursquare is mainly for American hipsters rather than the wider world.
